It's a product that is dedicated for dermatologists' or beauty salons' use and helps beauticians to pick the right skincare treatment for their patient. I had a go at it myself and I think that it's a great device for someone who knows what they are doing. Unfortunately, I could not use it on myself and I had to count on my friend who is just as inexperienced in using such type of equipment to tell me what she saw. The device is used in the dark and has to be plugged in to the socket. I put on some cotton pads for eye protection after making them wet, otherwise, they would not stay on my eyes, then put my head into the black bag that you can see in the picture and my friend told me what she saw. Then we swapped. The device magnified the face hugely and I could see that my friend had a lot of sun damage, which is not normally visible in the normal light.

Although I think the device is very good and it appears to be of high quality I found it of little use to myself as, firstly, I could not check my own skin and, secondly, I believe you need to have seen many other faces and learn how to compare them - by looking at only one face it is difficult to know how interpret what you see. Still, it seems to be a good tool for a specialist and I would definitely recommend at least to have a go at using it first and potentially incorporating it into their practice.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Aging is a natural process, and none of us can avoid it. But that doesn't mean that you have to put up with all of the things that happen as you age, especially skin problems. Wrinkles, sags, and scars are all treatable thanks to today's modern skincare technology. The only problem is that you have to take the time to find the skincare treatment that will work for you.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Some people gravitate toward laser procedures to correct skin problems. Others don't have any skincare procedures at all because they think their choices are lasers or nothing. But there are actually lots of skincare procedures to pick from, so lasers should just be part of the list that you consider when you want to correct your own skin issues.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When to Consider Having a Facelift?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A facelift is just one procedure on the skincare list, but it can be an excellent choice in some situations. However, you should only consider having a facelift if your skin problems are quite advanced. For mild to moderate skin problems facelifts are just not appropriate. They can be expensive and time consuming. They can even be physically risky at times.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When Laser Procedures Are a Better Choice?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Treating your skin with medical lasers for skincare is certainly still a valid choice. But you should only choose that option if your wrinkles and sags are still only moderate. Laser devices can perform precise treatments to help you reduce wrinkles and reverse some scarring. There are even plenty of laser procedures that can revitalize your skin in a more generalized way by encouraging internal strengthening of your skin's cellular structure.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you do decide to have a laser treatment, just be sure to take the time to select one that is appropriate. For example, an ablative laser procedure is one that can have a dramatic impact on the outer layer of your skin, but that isn't always necessary for treating certain skin issues. In fact, ablative treatments can sometimes do more harm than good if they are used to treat the wrong conditions or skin types. A non-ablative treatment, which only treats lower skin layers, might be a better way to clear up your skin issues, depending on your personal situation.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When to Use Other Procedures for Skin Improvement?
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Other types of skincare procedures may be better options than either laser treatments or facelifts under certain circumstances. For example, if your skin concerns are mild then a simple cream or lotion applied regularly may be all you need to revitalize your cells and regain your healthy glow.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Even if your skin concerns are moderate lasers aren't the only treatments available. Chemical peels or microdermabrasion procedures are just a couple of your other choices. Either of those procedures can treat the surface of your skin and achieve similar results to laser treatments.
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Coming Up with a Final Skincare Plan
<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue" , "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">When it comes time to come up with a final skincare plan the best person to ask is your dermatologist or a clinician at your local skincare clinic. They are trained in skincare matters and can explain to you exactly what the pros and cons would be for you if you were to undergo laser treatments or any other skincare procedures. After sitting down with them you can determine which treatment to use and what aftercare procedures you will have to follow to keep your skin looking as good as it possibly can.
If you love big hair, you are going to love Surya Brasil's range of hair products. Their shampoo and conditioner turns my locks into big thick tresses that I love. The first time I used the products I got a bit annoyed as they do not seem to form any foam. It feels like you could put the whole bottle on your hair and the hair would still be dirty. The conditioner also seems to disappear into your hair without doing anything. However, don't be fooled, you don't need to use up the whole bottle of Surya's shampoo nor conditioner just for one wash. You need only a little bit and although hair doesn't seem to get foamy from the shampoo or smooth and glossy from the conditioner, it doesn't mean that the products are not doing anything. Only a little bit will wash your hair well and give it that extreme volume that most of us so crave.

Amazonia Preciosa Cupuacu shampoo and conditioner are sold as products for normal and straight hair, but I find the products great for my gentle waves too as long as I don't brush my hair after wash. The shampoo reminds me of John Frieda's range for extreme volume, but I think that Surya has the edge. The hair feels like it has been powdered to volumize it, so I guess that some people may not like the way the hair feels after wash, but that is what gives your hair that extreme mostly desired volume.

Other great features of Surya Brasil Amazonia Preciosa shampoo and conditioner:

Free of mineral oil, silicone and sulfates

Protects hair from the effects of wind, pollution and use of hairdryer.

Increases hair volume and flexibility

No animal testing

If so, you may have already figured out how to deal with that awful skin that you get if you use too strong for you retinol product. If you have just found out about retinol and you bought some product by yourself without really knowing what you were doing, chances are that you have got a cream that is too strong for your skin. It's not going to kill you, but it may give you an unpleasant experience and this is exactly what I had when I started out. I had no idea that retinol makes skin peel and I certainly had no idea that it can make skin peel so badly that you won't know how to get out of the house without embarrassing yourself.

Here is another very good article about retinol which I highly recommend to read for anyone who is anything less than a pro in skincare and anti-ageing.

Flaking skin from too strong retinol product

Anyway, let's go back to our original question about peeling skin. So, how do we solve this problem? First of all, if you have already acquired a product that is too strong for you, then you may want to ditch it and get another one that is the right strength for you! But what about all the cash that you just splashed out on the cream? Hmm.. I think this is where some creativity can help. Take another cream that you normally use and mix it up with your retinol product, then spread it on your face as usual. You may still not get the consistency that works for you in the first time, but you can still try a few more times until you do get it right. If your skin still peels too much, use more of your usual cream and less of retinol. According to the beauty therapist Amie from Biologique Recherche skin doesn't have to peel for retinol products to be effective.

Ginvera Marvel Gel helps get rid of flaking

One thing to bear in mind, as Amie states, is that you need to know what's in the bottle of your ordinary face cream or a moisturiser, i.e., if the cream already has ingredients that encourage exfoliation, then it may not be good for your skin to mix your night cream up together with a retinol product as your usual skincare favourites will not dilute the retinol and it may even enhance instead of suppressing the vitamin A derivative. So, be wary.

What if your skin is already peeling, you need to get out of the house and you don't know what you can do to reduce that desquamating skin? In this case I use a product called Ginvera Marvel Gel. I use it after a standard face exfoliant which, unfortunately, doesn't normally remove flaking skin, but it somehow makes Ginvera gel more effective. You can also try to use the mentioned product without exfoliation beforehand. Ginvera Marvel Gel targets the cornified skin layer dissolving and removing the dead skin cells on the top most epidermis layer. One word of caution: use it only in emergencies as it certainly has some ingredients that work in a similar way to AHA, BHA, which means that it will irritate your already irritated skin instead of soothing it. However, it will get rid of the flakiness at least for a few hours. Watch the video to see how the marvellous gel works on skin. The YouTube video has more than just a demo of the mentioned product, so be patient.

What is your experience with retinol products? Do you use any? Will you in the future if you are still too young now?
I had an amazing facial with Biologique Recherche. Amie, the therapist, spent the whole 2.5 hours talking to me about my skin, giving me some general skincare tips and giving me an amazing facial which left my skin noticeably tighter, lifted and wrinkle-free (except for a few around the eyes lines that I get when smiling).

Biologique Recherche (BR) has a very unique attitude to ageing and cosmetics. They do not claim to make people young again, but they try to slow down the ageing by using their holistic approach to skincare. They do not go for the extreme cosmeceutical approach that often rips skin off the top layer, imbalances skin's ph neither they use ineffective mass market products that are hardly able to achieve any results due to them being too generic for individual skin. They look at skin as a part that is interconnected with the rest of the body and they try to solve skin problems by looking at the bigger picture. Biologique Recherche have a huge number of skincare products to offer a bespoke solution to every client.
Let's go back to the facial that Amie did to me on Friday. The BR facial was very long with a massage that helped me disconnect from the outside world and some pinching and pulling movements along my face to achieve the lifting effect. At the end she used a galvanic device to push some extra ingredients deeper into my skin. Some ice at the end of the therapy closed my open pores. Amie asked me if I could see a lift in my face when I was still lying down on the treatment bed, but it was too difficult to see. When I eventually stood up and looked at myself in the mirror I was really impressed as my face looked noticeably younger and lifted! How could she lift my face with her hands, it's impressive! Amie claims that she pushed a lot of ingredients into my face by massaging it, which gave me outstanding result. Also, the result is not only short-term.

There is some more stuff coming my way that has been selected specifically for me by Amie. This is how things are done at Biologique Recherche - everyone is different and unique and everyone's skin is treated accordingly.

Watch out for more posts on Biologique Recherche to see if their pick for my skin was better than any other products that I use based on my own judgement. Looking forward to trying out their lotion, serum, cream and a few other things.
Do you use any products that you can't normally get in your convenience shop without it being prescribed by a therapist, dermatologist or any other expert? Have you ever been given a facelift with hands?

I have a very red nose. It's not constantly red, but the redness comes back every time I get cold, every time I have some alcohol, do some exercise or certain other activities. To make matters worse, the skin on my nose has a very waxy appearance, i.e., when I apply some foundation or concealer, it simply doesn't stay on for very long. Well, try to apply some concealer on a candle and see how easy it will be! Not easy, I tell you. So, I mustered my courage and decided to get this redness problem removed from my life.

The Medical Practice, Price and the Number of Treatments required

I went to Karidis, a medical practice for beauty treatments in St John's Wood, London. The practice was nice and the lady who I spoke to was lovely, so I booked myself in for a V-Beam session.

According to the practitioner V-Beam is the most effective therapy for treatment of skin redness, rosacea and so on. I require a minimum of three sessions, but it can be as many as six to see a difference. I guess for my nose I will need at least six to make a change. I also decided to get rid of redness on my cheeks which was never too bad, but it seemed to make sense to do this too, given that I had my nose treated, anyway.

The V-Beam therapy cost me £120 per session, i.e., for the top of my cheeks and the nose area. You are not supposed to have any active sunbathing for a month before and after the pulsed dye laser treatment, also, no fake bake for a week before and after the therapy time. Sun cream is a must of at least SPF30 for a month after the VBeam and, ideally, before.

The V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser Procedure

The V-Beam session only took approximately 10-15 minutes. My make-up was removed, face properly cleansed and safely goggles placed on my eyes. The goggles were very dark, they almost blacked everything out. They were very tight and I could hardly blink, so I just kept my eyes closed. The session started.

Imagine that the lightening lands on your face, you see bright light and you get an electric shock - that's how I can best describe the feeling of having my face lasered with the mentioned device. Luckily, the laser is not continuous, it pulses, so you get breaks to recover from the electric shock, plus the whole process only takes 10 or so minutes. It's bearable.

Alter the V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser Procedure

After laser the therapist applied some cooling gel and SPF50 on my skin. She said that I might feel a burning sensation for a few hours or even days, but, luckily, I felt nothing. I had no discomfort whatsoever, other than my swollen appearance.

I put on dark wide sunglasses to hide my face from strangers and set off home. You certainly would not want to go back to work after this, not because you wouldn't be able to work, but because you would look so ugly that you simply wouldn't want anyone to see you.

VBeam is a non ablative laser, so the skin surface remains unaffected, i.e., you don't get weeping skin nor there is any risk of infection unless your skin had already been infected before the treatment, but then you should not have the procedure done in the first place. The only thing that happened to me was a badly swollen skin and some temporary redness.

After the therapy my skin looked like a 3D map. You could clearly see the line of demarkation with sections being raised were the laser device glided on my skin. On the next day the demarkation line disappeared and my skin simply looked very swollen. I avoided going anywhere where I knew I could not get away without taking off my sunnies. I went to the shop though. I know I looked silly with the sunglasses in the middle of the winter and in the dark, but still not as silly as I would have looked like with my two normally quite big eyes looking like two peas planted in a pile of snow.

All right, I am a little bit exaggerating. It wasn't quite as bad, but I tell you, don't plan any events for at least two to three days after the treatment as you may end up looking like someone who has been beaten up. The swelling went away to a reasonable level on the third day after the treatment, i.e., on Monday (the VBeam pulsed dye laser treatment was performed on me on a Friday before). Even then I was still swollen, but I dared to get out of the house without my usual sunnies. Tuesday was the first day when my appearance seemed to be normal.

The Result

The red patch that appeared on my skin 2-3 weeks after
the treatment

My cheeks look noticeably less red. To be honest, they hardly have any redness now at all, so it's an achievement. My nose is still as red as it was before. I mean it went badly red when I was skiing. I looked like a Santa Clause, which is usual for me during rigorous exercise, so no result. I am supposed to have three to six sessions, so I will definitely need them all at least. The question is: Will all those sessions help my redness go away? We will see. I will update you in the future.

Side Effects

Two to three weeks after the V-Beam pulsed dye laser treatment some red patches appeared on my skin. They are clearly laser related. Luckily, I managed to get rid of the redness with OZ Naturals 20% vitamin C serum. I can still see that my skin is not exactly its usual self, but at least it doesn't look too bad now and it's not red anymore. I believe the skin will even out after a while, otherwise, I will have to employ my favourite anti-ageing tool called a derma roller to even out the texture of the skin.

Just a couple of days ago another two red patches appeared on my skin, which I find quite odd as it's been nearly six weeks since I had the VBeam laser therapy. I certainly didn't expect any side effects to appear so much later. I will see what happens and let you know in the future.

Final Word

Have you used any laser treatments? Did it help you? Would you use an IPL, any other non ablative or ablative laser? What skin problems do you have?

YouTube Video

If you fancy to watch me chat about the VBeam treatment for skin redness, you are welcome to watch my YouTube video. There is no new information there, but you can see what my face looks like now.

Update on 27 March 2015

Today I have been on my second session of VBeam at Karidis. The therapist used a slightly stronger setting on my nose to get better results, so we will see what happens next, but my nose already looks less red. Is it possible that this is working straight away? I don't know, but it looks like it might be.

I would like to update you on my red patches that had appeared on my skin previously. Thankfully they are now fully gone and my skin looks absolutely flawless.

Increased collagen is the added benefit of V-Beam, which I can totally notice. My cheeks look fuller and more rounded, which I love.

Smaller skin pores is another plus that V-Beam provides and I can observe the difference on my face. So, I am happy with the results of my first session in terms of what my skin looks like. Now I am waiting for the results from the second session as I want to see the redness from my nose fading, which was the original intent of my visit. I'll keep you posted.

One more important thing about swelling. My skin swell badly the first time round, but I hadn't used anything to cool it. I assumed that cooling was suggested to keep pain at bay, which I didn't have. However, I have been told that cooling is necessary to control swelling, which, obviously, makes sense looking back. I will keep my cheeks cool as much as it is practical to do so and I will let you know if I still get the same degree of swelling as before or less.
If you are into anti-ageing you will know by now about the power of vitamin C to your skin. OZ Naturals also know about it and, therefore, they have created a 20% Vitamin C Serum with amino acids, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and Ferulic acid to give our skin a boost in nutrients and anti-oxidants. It is not a magic formula which will turn back the clock, but it will even out your skin tone and, hopefully, will slow down collagen loss whilst loading your skin with anti-oxidants.
OZ Naturals claim that their vitamin C serum penetrates further into the skin's layers as opposed to a moisturiser that penetrates just below the surface. The 20% Vitamin C serum is specifically designed to stimulate new collagen production while also hydrating your skin to make it softer, smoother and younger-looking.

The serum is free of all the nasty stuff, such as parabens, sulfates, it is cruelty free and 100% vegan.

Although I am not able to measure my collagen levels and I cannot confirm that it has increased collagen in my skin, I can confirm that OZ Naturals 20% vitamin C serum has evened out my skin tone. Actually, it seemed to have solved one serious problem that I had after having had an IPL treatment on my cheeks. I'll talk about this beauty procedure sometime later on my blog.

Two to three weeks after the VBeam treatment some red spots appeared on my cheek. I had never had them before and after a bit of "googling" I decided that the spots were a consequence of too high power used during the IPL session. I was a bit concerned as most other people who had their skin burnt by the laser had the marks appear a lot sooner than three weeks after the treatment. Well, I could not do anything, but wait and see what happens. At the same time I decided that it was time for me to try out the new OZ Naturals 20 percent vitamin C serum, which I applied on a thoroughly cleansed face before going to bed. To my surprise, I woke up with such a smooth skin tone and no red marks on my face at all. I was in awe!

So, although such things as collagen levels are hard to measure, I can confirm the power of the OZ serum in evening out the skin tone and brightening the top layer of our face. My patchy and blotchy skin looked so much better after a single application of this skincare elixir and, most importantly, it saved me a lot of worries about what would happen with my face and those red marks that appeared on my cheeks after the laser.

Do you use any vitamin C serum or product in your skincare regimen? If so, which one?

I am an infrequent retinol cream user, therefore, protecting my skin from the sun is of utmost importance to me. The only problem is that I had to find a product that had high SPF, but, also, did not leave my face all shiny or turned me into a porcelain doll, which happens with most of the other sun creams with high SPF.

Thank God, SkinPep sent me a lot of samples of almost every product that they have in their range. They are a great brand, but SkinPEP Hydra-Sun Defence SPF 30 mineral sunscreen moisture boost day cream left the best impression. I have been looking for a product like this for a long time and I have been using sun creams with high SPF that I absolutely hate, simply due to having bad luck and not coming across anything else similar to the mentioned product. I only have a small sample of 7ml, so it won't last me very long, but I am definitely buying this sunscreen day cream again very soon.

So, what exactly do I love about SkinPEP SPF 30 sun cream?

Months ago I got sent a collagen drink in powder form by Rejuvenated. I totally forgot about the received bag, but when I came across it at the back of my cupboard, I got very excited and set off to try the collagen shots out immediately.

Collagen is the main structural protein of various connective tissues in animals. Collagen drinks are supposed to help us rejuvenate our skin, hair and nails, make nails firm and strong, improve the tone and texture of our skin and so on. Lots of benefits, so what's not to like?

All excited, I opened the pack and started to drink collagen shots - once a day one hour before bedtime, as instructed. A couple of weeks later after starting to drink collagen shots I noticed that my nails became thicker and whiter, which I normally consider a sign of health. My hair seemed to look shinier too. Although my nails looked better, I noticed that they started to split and became brittle. Very soon, a few of my nails broke from very mild impact and I had to cut them all short as they looked ridiculous. This does not often happen to me. My nails are fairly strong generally and I often cut them shorter simply due to convenience, but now I had to cut them really short, much shorter than it is usual for me.

Liquid collagen drink

I did not understand what was going on, I thought I was going crazy. I googled to see if there was any chance that collagen drinks could make my nails brittle. What I saw was the opposite! Every site claimed that the protein in collagen makes nails strong and stops them from being brittle, so how did the opposite happen to me then?

We all know how diet affects our lives. Good diet can make us look and feel better, bad diet can cause us various problems starting with constipation, bloating, lethargy, lack of concentration, stomach aches and others. Both hair and nails are made from the same protein, called keratin, so it makes sense that similar diet choices would affect them both, says dermatologist Jessica Wu on Huffington post. She claims that a lot of people come to her practice complaining about thinning hair and brittle nails. One of the main culprits, she says, is that people eat too much fish, which contains high levels of mercury. High levels of mercury can lead to hair loss. Also, people who do not eat enough of protein can have hair loss and brittle nails.

Collagen shots by Rejuvenated

Some fish has higher levels of mercury, especially those that are higher in the food chain such as marlin, tuna, shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish and northern pike. Also, fish that is older and larger contains more mercury, which is accumulated throughout their lives. Weak flaky nails that tear and split easily is one of the many signs of mercury poisoning, so could I have been harming myself with my collagen shots? I can't answer that, but the company concerned claims that their collagen has only tiny traces of harmful metals, not more than any other fish products that are considered good to our diets. Nevertheless, the quality of collagen is important and, if you are to try out this drink, you must do further research on which collagen drink to buy as they are not all equal. Rejuvenated does not provide any information on what their collagen drink is made of. The package states that it is made of marine collagen with a lot of extras added to it.

If anyone wants to know more about Rejuvenated collagen shots, I will tell you that they taste good and they don't smell of fish, but this is trivial if it doesn't do what it is supposed to do or, even worse, maybe it's causing me more harm than good?

If anyone has any explanation as to why my nails started to split and became brittle, please let me know in the comment box below. I would love to hear the answer.

Have you ever tried any collagen drinks? What effect did it have on your skin, hair and nails? Would you like to try a collagen drink?
Addressing the company 's mentioned in the post concerns I would like to add the following words provided by them:

"The fish used for Collagen Shots is ethically sourced from free running fresh water and of European origin. All production runs are produced to European Food Safety Association standards and have certifications of analysis. Our products are 100% natural without additives or fillers, we go to great lengths to source the very best ingredients possible."
Professional Beauty Show in London Excel is one of the shows that every girl who has any interest in beauty should visit. The show advertises itself as a professional expo, i.e., the show for beauty practitioners and all those working in the industry, but really it's a great event for everyone. People in the industry can find beauty product suppliers, make connections with brands, learn about and acquire beauticians and beauty salons' software, attend educational seminars or simply watch live demonstrations of various beautification techniques that beauty professionals use in their practices.

The event took place on the 22-23rd of February 2015 in London Excel centre. I attended only the Sunday show, but it was enough to get an idea. The Show is a big and busy event with lots of stands of various sizes and exhibitors showcasing their products. In one end there were more beauty products such as lipsticks, hair extensions, eyeshadows, nail polishes and alike, the other end was dominated by skincare brands and large stands, which reminded me of the Anti-Ageing Health and Beauty Show in its nature. The only difference between the shows is that the Professional Beauty Show is a lot bigger and it is more varied, but I am sure everyone would find something interesting for them in both of them. From an exhibitors point of view, Professional Beauty seemed to be a lot busier, especially if I compare it with the Anti-ageing Show in Manchester, but I don't know how busy it is in the other cities where @pro_beauty has its presence. Maybe they are a lot emptier there too?

Let's see what I saw at the Professional Beauty Show in London. Obviously, I saw a lot more than what you'll see in the pictures, but I did not wear Google Glass to film it all!
They claim that their Fountain drinks give us energy in a very subtle way, i.e., they make us energetic like Red Bull does, but they do not give the rush and anxiety that is often accompanied by the mentioned popular product. Also, the drink can target specific concerns, such as aid sleeping, give us confidence, mental energy and so on. Pretty impressive!

Recently I tried out a few face masks that got hard very quickly. Some of them state that you need to keep them on for 15 or so minutes, but they get hard within a minute or two. They start pulling skin so badly that there is no way you can last the recommended time without doing anything about it.

Clay masks go through three stages: the damp phase, start of the dry and the dry phase. During the damp phase skin absorbs all the nutrients, the start of the dry phase exercises capillaries and stimulates blood flow and the dry phase draws moisture out of skin. You don't want to reach the dry phase, you need to wash the mask off before then if you want to benefit from the product rather than cause dry and possibly itchy, flaky skin. I don't know if all the other masks draw moisture from your skin in the same way, but I believe that they do. Even if that wasn't the case, how can you possibly benefit from keeping a face mask for, let's say, one minute instead of the recommended 15 minutes? Most of the masks are too pulling!

So, what do you do? How do you stop face masks from getting hard to get all the goodness out of them?

Don't buy masks that pull your face!!! No, I am only joking. The first mask that kept drying out very quickly was the mask that I received from Ogra. Luckily I read their instructions, which said that you need to keep spraying water on your face, and this is when I figured that I had to do the same with all the other masks that were drying out too quickly. At the end of it it was worth it, Ogra's mask and a few others all worked very well on my skin, leaving it beautifully smooth with that super clean feeling, so don't be put off by that drying feeling. Carry on reading to see what I do to solve this problem.

It can be a little bit tricky to spray water unless you have a special bottle spraying mist. My first attempt to buy such bottle ended up in failure as it doesn't spray mist, it sprays water like a hose as it's a pressure spray bottle, so no way I could use it on my face. The bottle will do a good job in summer though when we play water guns with my kids. I'll use the bottle as my secret weapon to unsuspecting children!

Let's forget the guns for now. I use a toothbrush to spray water on myself when I am wearing a face mask. It gives very fine mist and it's perfect for applying a little bit of water on my drying out face. It keeps the mask moist and allows me to keep it on my face for as long as I want.

Thesis skincare brand has their advice regarding face mask softening. They say that in winter face masks get hard a lot quicker due to low humidity levels and one way to rectify this situation is to add a few drops of oil into a face mask. I haven't tried this method yet, but I am definitely going to give it a go next time I am using Thesis products.

I hope this gave you a few ideas. What type of face masks do you use if you use them at all? What's your favourite?
So, what's so different about Thesis products?

Thesis eyes and face serums, scrub and mask

First of all, the mask and the scrub come in a powder form and it's not something I have seen before. There is always the first time! Thesis face and eye serums are both in oil form. They are made from premium cold-pressed oils and organic essences, no synthetics. The ingredients in both serums are similar. Both contain jojoba, grapeseed, argan, rosehip, palmarosa and some other oils together with vitamin E.

Although I am generally not a huge fan of oils as they stay on my face without getting absorbed by my skin, I enjoy using these ones. Essences have been added to give the Thesis products a wonderful smell and not the usual smell of cooking oil, which I must admit is a big part of why I don't normally enjoy applying oils to my face. Like usual, these oils do not get easily absorbed into my skin, but they don't feel very thick like most of others, so I don't mind them too much. Also, the serums give my skin a wonderful glow, which is a big plus.

Thesis face serum claims to be a perfect nourishment for dry, damaged skin, which I perfectly believe as the only reason it doesn't get absorbed into my skin quite easily is because my skin is not dry (although it used to be!). I tried the face serum on my extremely dry hands at this time of the year and the serum got absorbed instantly. I like the fact that Thesis made it clear that the face serum is a lullaby for dry skin, instead of trying to convince that it's the best product for everyone, even though the person ends up with a layer of grease on their face for the rest of the day. Well, they have other products to match your skin type.

Thesis Face Scrub and Mask review

Thesis face mask and Thesis face exfoliant are great products too. The scrub gently removes buildup of dead skin and the mask revitalizes face as it's loaded with antioxidants, skin renewing vitamins and acids. A teaspoon or two of each has to be mixed with a bit of water to achieve desired consistency and then the products are applied on face. During the application the mask kept getting tight on my face, so I kept spraying water, otherwise, I would not have lasted the recommended 15 minutes. Also, they both have quite clinical smell. It felt a bit like I was at a dental clinic as the smell bore resemblance to the smell of fillings, especially those in the old days. Well, even though the products remind me of a dental practice more than a spa, they are effective and I felt totally content with the result after removing all of them from my skin. My skin felt more even and super clean, ready for a moisturiser before bed. Thesis face scrub and mask could be used to infuse some glow into your skin before a date night, for sure!

Thesis has kindly advised that the mask drying time depends on humidity levels that are normally lower in winter, so the mask dries out quicker. A few drops of oil could be added to the mask to remedy the situation.

Thesis face serum for dry skin and the eye serum both cost US$19.95 each, Thesis face scrub and the mask are also US$19.95 each. As mentioned before, they have other products to match your skin type, which is always a benefit.

Have you ever used any masks or scrubs in powder form? Have you tried Thesis products? Do you use any eyes to face oils?
Nevertheless, I found something that worked for me right after reading an article in the Daily Mail about a mysterious dissapearance of a miracle acne treatment called PanOxyl. Clearly this is a product of choice for a lot of other people. I didn't research about this topical product as I trusted the source which claimed that the gel had actually disappeared from the market. Also, I never believe anything until I get to experience it for myself, so why would I think that this cream was better than any other acne cream or treatment that was sold over the counter that I had already tried?

Hormonal acne spots are often located on your chin

Let's go back to my story. Approximately a week before my period I get these nasty spots on my face. they usually stay there for approximately two weeks or sometimes longer. Occasionally they do not even go away in a cyclical manner as they are that big and annoying, to say the least. I am still totally confident that it's all to do with my hormones as the pattern is obvious and all the other symptoms are there too, such as pimples form around my mouth and lips, chin and jawline; my acne spots are often cystic and sometimes take ages to go away.

I am a creature of habits and I struggle to change my routine for the sake of getting rid of pimples or even to balance my hormones. Plus, although I like the idea of things being natural, I don't often find natural treatments to be very effective.

Totally accidentally I found a cream in my drawer which I knew was there for ages, but I never picked it up nor had a look at what it was for. Recently, somehow the cream ended up in my hands when I was looking for some other medicine for my sore finger. It read "Quinoderm for acne". "Wow" - I thought as I didn't remember buying any cream for acne such a long time ago. Acne spots were something fairly new in my life, i.e., something I acquired after having my two kids, together with the "much loved" hormonal imbalance. Anyway, I looked at the expiry date on the acne cream tube and it said that it was September 2011. Should I use something that expired such a long time ago? Well, I had an awful spot on my chin and a couple of other smaller pimples in the same area and somewhere on the bridge of my nose. What do I have to lose trying? Quickly I applied the cream and went to bed without thinking too much.

In the morning, to my big surprise, the smallest spots were already gone, the medium spot had somehow started to dry out and the huge pea sized monster on my chin somewhat started to look a little bit less monstrous. Wow! This is the first acne cream that actually worked on me. Previously, I noticed that Skinceuticals retinol cream which I infrequently, but regularly applied on my face, had some positive effect, but certainly not even close to this magic!

Acne vulgaris topical medicine Quinoderm

I quickly went to google for Quinoderm for acne cream and I found that all suppliers had run out of it without any further information as to when exactly they were going to have the miraculous acne cream back on the market. Now, no way I am getting rid of this wonder product even though it was four years past it's expiry date. I carried on using this cream three times a day and it cured all my pimples beautifully, even the massive pea sized spot on my chin. This is by far the best treatment I have had for acne. To be honest, I didn't even believe that it was possible to cure acne vulgaris with topical over-the-counter medication.

Suddenly I remembered the article in the Daily Mail and I quickly ran to check for the name of the cream to see if it was Quinoderm for acne that Iona Bain was talking about. No, she was talking about PanOxyl, an over-the-counter topical gel, however, the main active ingredient there was benzoyl peroxide which is the same as in Quinoderm cream.

You will probably struggle to buy the product that I have, but I have checked PanOxyl out and it doesn't seem to be a problem to buy this one, regardless of what the DailyMail stated. I haven't tried it out myself, but, given that it has the same main active ingredient and some reviewers on various sites said that they had switched from Quinoderm to PanOxyl with at least as good or even better results, I believe it will kill acne spots just as effectively.

The only warning is: be prepared to a bit of dry and flaky skin in the area where you are using the cream. Also, make sure to use the cream only on the spots and not on your whole face unless your whole face is affected. Your face needs to be squeaky clean or it won't work, at least for me it doesn't unless the pimples and the surrounding area are very clean. Don't use any moisturiser on top. Apply the acne product two to three times a day for maximum effect and always follow the instructions.

If you are struggling with acne or hormonal acne like me and still haven't tried Quinoderm nor PanOxyl, I think these are your best shots and you have no excuse not to try them, especially given that the former one costs approximately £2-3 and the latter only £4-5. Make sure that you buy the cream with benzoyl peroxide of 10% for maximum efficiency.

I am quite pleased to say that I found my favourite product that cured acne spots on my face and I hope that some of you will benefit from this information as this chronic skin condition can lead to depression, negativity and in more severe cases even suicidal thoughts, so it's not something to be taken lightly.

Have you ever had acne? How did you treat it? Did you manage to cure it, any advice?

I have been kindly offered to test Skinpep Collagen Renew Growth Factor Night Cream, which I will be reviewing in this post.

Recently I have been experimenting with a few new skincare products, so it was quite difficult to separate the effects of the mentioned cosmetic, however, I got the idea of what it's like and I will tell you whether I like it or not in my review.

SkinPep Collagen Renew Growth Factor Night Cream has an awful lot of great ingredients such as growth factors, matrixyl, retinol, hyaluronic acid, collagen peptides, CoQ10, green tea and lots more. It offers delivery of antioxidants and growth factors in an airless way.

It claims to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles while you are sleeping, ensures excellent skin moisturisation, provides powerful anti-oxidants to your skin. It is best used with SkinPep Ultra Retinol for night time only.

Well, the product has a very hygienic dispenser and I like to use it with Skinceuticals Retinol cream. I mix them up together and apply before bed. The retinol preparation that I have is too strong for me, so I dilute it with the mentioned SkinPep product and it works wonders on my skin. I only use retinol cream once a week or sometimes even less often, on the other days I apply pure SkinPep night cosmetic and it also feels great on my skin.

Although I struggle to separate the effects of the mentioned cosmeceutical from the other products I have been using, I like the consistency of the Collagen Renew night cream and I think it benefits my skin by making it a bit smoother and providing it with moisture while I am asleep. Also, it is great that the product can be applied to the delicate area around eyes.

SkinPep cream costs £5.99 for a 2ml sachet, £39.99 for a 30ml bottle and £64.99 for a 50ml bottle. The brand constantly has some promotions and sends out some discount codes to their subscribers. Once I managed to find a 50% discount code online which I tested and it worked, so keep your eyes peeled if you would like to try their products out!

Do you test a lot of new skincare products or stick to the same old ones? Have you heard of SkinPep?

Juice vs fruit - which one is healthier?

Juicing for health and vitality, detoxing, juice benefits and other big words keep popping up when we talk about leading a better lifestyle, but is juice really that great for us or it's just juicing "experts" and companies that are trying to sell Nutri Bullets, other blending and juicing machines, detox, cleansing diets and other stuff that are creating a havoc.

So, we are all going crazy about juice these days - everyone is buying new juicers and trying to be healthier. Off course, it is still January, so a lot of us still stick to our New Year's Resolutions to eat healthier, to exercise, to go to sleep earlier and so on. Well, if one of your resolutions was to start drinking more juice, why not to try and replace that wonderful idea with an even better idea? Eat the fruit and vegetables instead of juicing them! Not having to use a juice machine or a blender will save you time spent on juicing and washing the device, money as you will be wasting less food, but the biggest advantage is that you will be getting a lot more benefit by eating fruit instead of drinking it. What do you think?

There is, actually, quite a lot to think about, because, although the mentioned health drink seems to be super good for you, it has its flaws and replacing juicing machines with eating raw fruit can give you a lot more benefits.

So, why is processing our healthy food is not quite as amazing as it seems to be? What's my advice?

Juicing for health? Really?

Eat fruit and vegetables instead of processing them to avoid gut related problems such as bloating, depression, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, lack of mental energy and even premature ageing. First of all, juice has no fibre that is crucially important for our health. Fibre helps avoid constipation by promoting good bacteria in your gut. Why do we care about constipation? Well, if you don't go to the toilet for a big one regularly, the chances are that you have imbalance between good and bad bacteria in your intestines. Bad bacteria produce toxins that leak into your bloodstream. What happens next? All of these are linked to bloating, depression, headaches, insomnia, less mental energy, anxiety, fatigue, predisposition to skin conditions and even premature ageing!!! So, sorting out your lower gastrointestinal tract is worth the effort, right? Some more reasons for keeping gut in good digestive order are as follows: it helps you minimise chances of getting bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and others. Now, let's go back to the point, eating the fruit and vegetables instead of juicing it will give you so much needed fibre to keep your gut in good health and condition - something worth considering! Some people even suggest to put the pulp back into the juice as pulp has all the beneficial fibre, but that sounds quite yucky to me. Using a blender is better than a juice machine, but a blender also has some drawbacks which you will learn about if you carry on reading.

Avoid sugar crash by eating the whole seedy product instead of juicing it. Juice has lots of sugar. All sugar you take in with it goes right into your blood stream giving you a short peak of energy, then a massive slump. So, another advantage of eating a fruit instead of juicing it is that you will avoid a sudden loss of energy. Fruit and vegetables go through the full digestive cycle and they are not instantly absorbed.

Dump the juicing machine if you are trying to lose weight. Fibre in fruit and vegetables helps us feel fuller. If you are trying to lose weight, it is crucial to feel full. Fresh plant product takes longer to digest, so it stays longer in your stomach making you feel full whereas liquid bypasses the complex digestive process instantly without activating the satiety mechanism through the process of chewing and alike. Also, the above mentioned sugar crash makes you crave for sugar as soon as it wears off, thus, making you consume more calories than if you ate something else other than the healthy concoction, thus, the juicers are not helpful when trying to lose weight. By eating a fruit you will take in less sweet substance as you will eat less of it than the processed version of it would contain and avoid the sugar crash which results in hunger for more sugary products.

Fibre in fresh produce aids absorption of nutrients, especially minerals such as calcium.

Juicing and blending wastes antioxidants. Antioxidants keep arteries healthy and aid mental health. Even if you use a blender and make a smoothie instead of the juice, it is still not as good as eating the seed-associated structure of a plant itself. Why? Apples, pears and alike lose a lot of nutrients in the process of juicing or blending. As soon as the fruit is cut, it starts to lose it's antioxidant power due to exposure to light and air, so juicers are not an optimum solution.

Juicers are a breeding ground for bacteria. Most of them are very difficult to wash and, therefore, the drink associated with vitality, durability, energy and vigour turns into a contaminated concoction, if badly handled. If juice is stored, then bacteria multiplies even faster and the drink can become a cause for vomiting, diarrhoea and even worse problems.

Another trivial thing - eating fruit and vegetables instead of juicing it will save you lots of cash. You won't need to spend money on a juicer and there will be no wastage of the valuable product that you have left after juicing. Something really worth considering!

Don't add yogurt or any diary into your juice or a smoothie as milk binds and neutralises antioxidants. Ignore the sources that encourage you to add yogurt to make your juice tastier.

I personally think that drinking juice has it's benefits and if you like it, if it works for you, then there is no need to change your habit, but if you have any of the symptoms mentioned in the post, maybe you should consider dumping the juicer and taking advantage of eating raw fresh fruit and veg instead.

What about you? Do you juice, blend or eat fresh fruit and vegetables to maintain optimum health? What other advantages of eating fruit instead of using juicing machines do you know? Maybe you would like to claim that juicing has more benefits?

The scrub with wonderful smell

Recently I have been spoilt rotten with various scrubs. I received a lovely organic peat face exfoliant from OGRA, then JOE coffee bath and shower body exfoliator and now Surya Brasil SAPIEN body scrub from the online shop called www.yourtonic.com. The best thing is that they are all amazing. I love organic peat products and OGRA offers just that, Joe's coffee scrub leaves body wonderfully moisturised and Surya Brasil's SAPIEN body skin scrub is pure luxury.

When I first opened the giant 300ml tube of Surya Brasil's exfoliant, a totally outstanding smell came out of the bottle and I kept breathing it in. I only wish I could somehow transfer the smell via a blog post! Unfortunately, I can't do it, but it's that good!

Joe's scrub is wonderful, but I know that some people hate the mess that a coffee scrub can leave behind in their bathroom and that puts them off using a scrub all together. Well, SAPIEN women exfoliator is probably the cleanest scrub I have had. It's all transparent with only tiny pieces of Coconut bark and organic Buriti, which like a slime glides on your skin leaving no dirt on your body, nor in your bath tub or shower. It's really non-messy and gives that luxurious spa experience when using it. When I first tried the scrub I knew that it was not a cheap exfoliant that you normally get in Boots or Superdrug. It costs £33.99 and it feels that it is priced right as it's totally worth it.

A needle can be used for targeted wrinkles or lines

You must be totally sick of my derma rollers and skin needling posts. I know I have been talking about these beauty devices loads, however, there is one question that I am constantly being asked by my readers and YouTube followers and it's the question that I always struggle to find the right answer for:

How often one should do skin or micro needling?

I will tell you what I did, but it doesn't mean that you should do the same.

When I was in the process of getting rid of my frown lines, I did skin needling a few times a week. It worked wonders for me, however, if you try to search for an answer online or elsewhere, you will see very different opinions, some people saying that it should not be done more frequently than once a month (I did a few times a week!!!). I don't have any medical qualifications, therefore, I should not be giving you an answer, especially the one that contradicts advice given elsewhere - just because skin needling with a certain frequency worked great on my skin, it may have different results on other people.

So, what should you do? I consulted a doctor, Dr David Bank, whose response was as follows:

“It depends on the individual's skin. Those with thicker, more sebaceous skin can use a derma roller once per week. However, those with more sensitive skin might only be able to use a derma roller once per month. For best results, you should always consult your dermatologist first to figure out what works best with your skin type.”

So, looks like you have to either use your own judgement or pay a visit to a dermatologist if you want to get the most out of your skin needling device.

I hope this gives you an idea of what determines the frequency of needling.

Below is my YouTube video where I talk about how frequent a derma roller or any other skin or micro needling device should be used. Nothing new there though - if you have read the post, then you don't have to watch the video. It's for those who prefer listening to reading.

Have you ever tried skin needling? Would you give it a go? Do you have any tricks to a more beautiful younger skin?

Sometimes it gets really cold here in the UK, but it's still laughable in comparison to how cold it can get in Lithuania, the country where I am originally from. I don't mind cold weather itself, but the problem is cold causes illnesses and some winters are so bad that it feels like I simply don't get out of the vicious cycle of being ill - just as I start to feel better, a day or two and I am back to having a runny nose, a cough or something else unpleasant, and all due to cold weather.

Cold weather? But cold is caused by a virus, right? So, why blame the weather? Well, lots of people laugh at the idea that somebody can get a cold as a consequence of getting cold. They say that it's a virus to blame and it's nothing to do to being physically cold.

Staying warm keeps virus at bay

So often I had to fight my husband to keep our kids warm so that they don't catch a cold. Chris would say that I was being silly, but I would say that I came from a cold country and I knew what happened when I got cold. There is an obvious positive correlation between being cold and catching a cold, so how can I deny it being true? At the same time I perfectly know myself that cold is caused by virus, so what's the logic?

"The key to avoiding a cold could be as simple as keeping your nose warm with a scarf when you venture outside in winter." - says Daily Mail. "Research shows that low temperatures make it harder for the body to fight off the bug that causes half of colds in adults and almost all colds in children.

The finding backs up the popular idea that people are more likely to come down with a cold if they get chilly, perhaps by not putting on a coat in winter. In other words, mother was right when she told you to wrap up warm.

Previously, scientists have said colds are not caused by a drop in temperature but by everyone staying indoors in stuffy rooms.

Now, researchers from Yale University in the US have looked at how well rhinovirus, the bug that is the biggest cause of the common cold, grew and multiplied in cells kept at different temperatures.

The germ found it easier to breed at 33C (91F) - the sort of temperature typically found inside the nose - than at the 37C (99F) found deep inside the body.

But crucially, the body's initial immune response to the cold does not work as well at 33C, meaning the virus was allowed to wreak havoc, reports the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences journal."

So, next time someone laughs at you for dressing yourself or your little ones warmly, refer them to my blog post or the Daily Mail, today's issue (Tuesday, January 6, 2015).

And, yes, my nose IS always cold, so maybe that's why I keep catching the cold so easily? Stay warm and stay heathy in winter!

How about you? Do you dress yourself warmly in winter or you are one of those who wears a T-shirt regardless of the weather?

Joe's ground coffee body exfoliant

Why buy a ground coffee body scrub when you can have your own homemade exfoliant for, literally, no cost? Well, if this is what you think, then keep on reading...

Are you getting fed up with lots of various exfoliants? There is another one and one more out there and you have to try them all... To be honest, I have been quite lazy with using any exfoliating stuff recently and when I heard from Joe about his coffee scrub the only thing that intrigued was the fact that it was made of coffee. Sometime in the past I used to make a homemade coffee exfoliant myself. I would have a cup of coffee first and use the leftovers to mix up with an exfoliant bought in a shop. I would rub my body with the mixture to make my skin feel very soft and clean. So, this is why I decided to give joe coffee body scrub a go. I was curious how the social dude Joe put his product together.

At first when I opened the pack it looked like coffee. I laughed: "At least I have a cup of coffee first and only then use the remaining bits in the shower, but this one is just some ground coffee, nothing more!". How wrong I was! It's not just a coffee, it has lots of other ingredients added to it and, although it smells like coffee, the product leaves skin amazingly moisturised. Seriously, I didn't feel like I needed a moisturiser after using joe exfoliant, which I found quite cool as it saved me time and effort after shower.

I realised how very cool this product was when I reached out for it the second time in just a few days. I wanted to use the product as I was enjoying it. Most of the time I feel obliged to use stuff, because I paid for it or it may have some benefits for my skin..
The moisturising benefits come from the botanical and the essential oils. The ground coffee scrub achieves similar effect as the product that I talked about when I was reviewing the Anti-ageing Show in Manchester. The salt scrub by Kedem was amazing, but it cost the whooping £55, which I thought was way too much even though the product was lovely. Joe scrub achieves the same moisturising effect and it has the price tag of $16 Canadian dollars, the British currency equivalent is approximately £8.80. Joe's product is affordable, in addition, it gets rid of dead skin cells, it is 100% natural without any harsh chemicals such as parabens, unnatural fragrances and other nasty stuff, so it's a good deal.

I also like the fact that it exfoliates better than most of the other scrubs that I've had. The other ones are simply too gentle to my liking. This coffee product is perfect.

I feel quite happy to have been introduced this beautiful thing as this is my new favourite scrub now. It is not part of my boring routine, but it's the product that I enjoy using.

Do you exfoliate your skin? What is your favourite body scrub?
It is this time of the year that brings me back to my childhood, the time when Christmas Eve was magical. Cattle would talk on the onset of Christmas day, water would turn sacred in all wells around the world and anyone who believed in magic would take advantage of this special night to talk to the dead relatives and ask them various questions about their own or their family's future.

Can a fortune teller tell your future?

These were magical times and I remember Christmas Eve as a really unique special day when everything was possible. It was not about presents and it was not just another night to go out and get drunk as it is in the UK. It was a very special day that you got only once a year.

Part of me longs those wonderful traditions that we had when I lived in Lithuania, but another part of me is happy. English traditions seem to be a lot simpler and certainly less magical; this kind of comforts me these days.

My family would often celebrate Christmas Eve together with my best friend's family. We would say some prayers (not that I was ever religious!), have our huge dinner, which was not allowed to contain any meat, eggs, diary or any alcohol, and my sisters together with my friends' sisters would go lock themselves in a room and do magic. Yes, they did magic, they called spirits of the dead people that they had known and asked them questions. They always took it very seriously and never let us, little ones, into the room. They claimed it was very dangerous as they had to call the spirit, but also had to send it back, otherwise, we would end up with a haunted house..

I don't know all the details about the magic that my sisters did, but I know they knew quite a few ways of doing it. One of them was using a plate and some paper with some writing on it. The person concerned asks questions that can only give you a yes or no answer and the plate would turn on its own indicating whether it was a yes or a no response. Most of the time nobody would tell me what questions they asked and the responses they received, but I do remember once my sister telling me that she had asked whether my mom would live for another 10 years, then 20 years and the same questions about our dad. All answers were a clear yes, but when she asked a similar question about herself, she said that strangely she did not understand what the reply was.. Nobody took too much notice, but I do recall my sister saying it.. Now it's way more than 20 years later and my both parents are still alive. They are well into their seventies now.

Christmas tree

My sister Martha (I invented the name for my own comfort) was an extremely intelligent bright girl and it is strange that she believed in magic. I guess magic was more like a game rather than a genuine belief, but just in case the girls seemed to be always very careful when they did it.

One day Martha decided to go and see a clairvoyant. I have no idea why an intelligent person would do it, but she did. When she came back she looked a bit concerned; the clairvoyant refused to tell her her future or she could not see anything, and, therefore, was not able to tell her her future. I cannot remember the exact words that my sister used, but the concept is the same. Some time later my sister's heart stopped, for no reason and she passed away.

Could the clairvoyant see my sister's future? Did the plate know the answer to all those questions that the girls asked on a Christmas Eve? Was everything only a coincidence?

I don't believe in magic and I am a very sceptical person. I only believe in things that I can see for myself, so no clairvoyant can tell me my fortune. Nevertheless, every time on a Christmas Eve I remember this story and I always wonder how this all happened. Is it really just a coincidence that the fortune teller refused to tell my sister her future, could she possibly really know anything? It's weird, because I don't believe magic or anybody's ability to tell somebody else's future, but somehow I treat these things with respect and I am very careful, just in case..

Do you believe in magic, ghosts, spirits, clairvoyants, fortune tellers and similar things? If so, which ones and why?
